15th Sunday after Pentecost

This Sunday, we continue to follow Jesus’ journey of bringing hope to so many lives, as recorded in Mark’s gospel (and foretold in the words of the ancient prophet Isaiah and the Old Testament Psalms). We hear how he breaks through so many societal & religious barriers of his day – to bring hope into the life of a Syro-Phoenician mother and a deaf man. The 2nd lesson from James reminds us that a living Christian faith expresses itself in acts of compassion and mercy for those in need. We join together as God’s people in the sanctuary, parking lot, and online to fulfill joyful words lifted up in Psalm 146: “Hallelujah! Praise the Lord, O my soul!” Prior to both services, we continue to offer our 5-minute Hope Prayer Times to “Be Still & Know that God is God.” We again light 4 special candles of HOPE during this pre-worship time: for all affected by Hurricane Ida/fires/flooding/storms; for the people of Haiti; for our military & Afghan refugees; for frontline workers & all affected by COVID. During the pre-worship times, a pastor can come pray with you in the pew if there is a particular joy/burden on your heart.
