20th Sunday after Pentecost – 10/10/21

This Sunday, the words of Psalm 90 speak to our hearts, “O Lord, satisfy us by your steadfast love … so shall we rejoice and be glad all our days.” In Mark 10, we meet a man who cannot accept Jesus’ invitation to embrace the freedom of God’s Kingdom because of his attachment to possessions. We hear about a camel passing through a needle’s eye and about the first being last & last being first – but most of all, we hear Jesus’ hope-filled words that with God, all things are possible! Hebrews 4 reminds us that in Jesus, we have a high priest who is able to sympathize with our human weaknesses, and because of Jesus, we can approach the throne of grace with boldness to receive mercy in every time of need! Pastor Carl returns to the pulpit to share with us a powerful Word, and Dea Jones offers the children’s message. As next steps in worship, we return more live singers in the choir, with Trad sharing his wonderful gifts on piano. Please keep our women’s group in prayer this weekend, as they are at the Isle of Palms Lutheran Retreat Center for their fall spiritual retreat. On Sunday, we hear the prophet Amos call God’s people to establish justice in the city gates. We boldly approach the throne of grace to be fed with Christ’s body & blood! We continue to offer safe worship options for everyone. We worship at both 8:15 and 10:30 in the sanctuary. At 10:30, you can also worship on the lawn (bring a blanket or lawn chairs), from the parking lot (via FM radio), or live-streamed at 10:30 (YouTube & Facebook). Don’t forget our special GIFT Zone children’s worship tables! Prior to both services, we offer our 5-minute Hope Prayer Times to “Be Still & Know that God is God.” During the pre-worship time, a pastor can come pray with you if there is a particular joy/burden on your heart.
