Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Sunday is the 50th (and last) day of Easter season, when we join Christians across the world to celebrate Pentecost! We remember how the Holy Spirit came in fullness upon the apostles with tongues like fire & the sound of a roaring wind – leading them into the streets of Jerusalem, to proclaim in many languages the Good News of God’s forgiveness and life for all in the name of Jesus! We recall the song, “We are ONE in the Spirit!” – and so this Sunday, we gather to worship as ONE at 10:30 for Pentecost. If weather allows, we will worship outside on the church lawn (bring blankets or lawn chairs, if you wish). If it’s wet or raining, we will worship in the sanctuary. Around 11:45, we gather for a joyful congregation picnic (either outside or inside). Lutheran Men are providing hamburgers & hot dogs, with veggie options. You are invited to bring side dishes or desserts to share. As always, 10:30 worship will be Livestreamed on both YouTube & Facebook. Spread the word to family & friends everywhere. (Note: if for some reason, you are unable to worship at 10:30, there will be a brief prayer service at 8:15.) Pentecost worship will be truly wonderful – with special music, anthems, instruments, and handbells. We have a joyful Pentecost procession, as well as the reading of Scripture verses in multiple languages. For Memorial Day, we also offer special prayers of remembrance for those who sacrificed so much for us. Wear something red if you have it, to celebrate the fire of the Holy Spirit in our lives! Along with Christmas & Easter, Pentecost IS one of the 3 most important days in our lives as followers of Jesus. It marks the birth of Jesus’ church on earth. Without the sending of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the Good News of Christmas, Easter, and everything Jesus accomplished would have never been known by the world, and none of us would even have the power to believe in faith. It is the coming of the Holy Spirit that allows us to celebrate God’s growing hope for our lives and the world. The Holy Spirit still works in so many powerful ways here in this congregation – and we pray you can sense the Holy Spirit giving you strength and comfort and the faith we all need to find meaning & purpose in life. We remember Jesus’ promise from John 14: “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything – and will remind you of all that I have said. Peace I leave with you – my peace I give to you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid!” Oh, what joy to celebrate the Holy Spirit in our lives. We look forward to worshipping, all as one, on this Pentecost Day! Christ’s peace. #SundayWorship
