fourth Sunday in Lent – 3/27/22

On this 4th Sunday in Lent, we are overwhelmed by the message of God’s reconciling grace! In response to leaders “grumbling” about his ministry, Jesus tells the story of a father who joyfully welcomes home a young prodigal son – but also takes time to care for a resentful older son. The apostle Paul reminds us that in Christ, everything has become new – and God has now given US a ministry of reconciliation to share with the world. We add the E for “Expand” to our Lenten cross, as we are stretched by the cross of Jesus to deeper H.O.P.E! At both services, we have an inspiring musical solo focusing on God’s forgiveness. At 10:30, we find joy in celebrating the Lord’s Prayer Faith Milestone for our children & Confirmation Students. Worship again concludes with the moving “cradling” procession of the cross. We continue to light our 4 HOPE prayer candles: prayer for Ukraine; prayer for refugee ministry with our adopted Afghani family; prayer for the Spirit’s work as we each participate in Lenten disciple groups; and prayer for our Justice Ministry as we join with sisters & brothers in faith to prepare for the big Nehemiah Action on April 4 – to bring hope to those without safe, adequate housing and to all suffering from the increasing gun violence in our community. Last Wednesday, our Youth touched our hearts with their modern interpretation of Zacchaeus life-changing encounter with Jesus (Lenten dramas remain posted on LS YouTube Channel or Facebook page). Next Wednesday at 6:45, we hear from Joanna (wife of Chuza) and Joseph of Arimathea. Again, we offer mid-day Wednesday prayer service at noon (with option for Holy Communion).
