Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Last Sunday, we had a wonderful celebration of our LS Child Development Center Ministry! This Sunday, we gather to celebrate the ministry of Lutheran Men. Various LS Men will share powerful hope stories of life and discipleship, and the Disciples of Harmony have a special anthem. We continue our GIFT Worship Experiences for children, with their cross processional, joyful noise instruments, Scripture-sermon learning activities, and post-worship family blessing at the font. Don’t forget that with recent COVID changes, we have updated our LS policy so that decision to wear a mask is everyone’s personal choice – we continue to respect anyone who chooses to wear a mask for health reasons. We are excited that our LS Good News Bible Reading project is underway. Go to our LS YouTube site, to see & hear stories from our Bible Book of the Month read by members of the LS community. From weeks 1 & 2, you can already find the Creation Story read by John Imbert & the story of the Garden read by Dawn Willingham. This week, we add the Story of the Flood by Deacon Lexanne. If you would like to record a story, just contact the office. Individuals, couples, families are all welcome to read. As an added bonus, on Mondays at noon, we have a brief worship devotion to listen together to the week’s story & respond with discussion & prayer. Holy Communion is available afterward (an especially good opportunity for anyone unable to be at church on Sunday mornings). In Sunday’s Scripture, we hear a powerful parable from Jesus about the Rich Man & Lazarus, reminding us of our call to never ignore the poor & hurting in our midst. Jesus’ teaching is echoed in Ist Timothy, warning us against being distracted from our discipleship by the world’s love of money. On Sunday, we also lift up all affected by recent storms & disasters, including the people of Puerto Rico, Alaska, and other regions of the world – with kickoff of special offerings for ELCA Disaster Response. Sunday’s words from Psalm 146 truly speak to our hearts: “Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord as long as I live!” What a joy it will be to gather as God’s people and give praise to the Lord this Sunday!
