Tenth Sunday After Pentecost

This Sunday, we hear the amazing story of Jesus walking on the water to bring peace and be with his disciples who are caught in the midst of a storm – a great lesson for us who live in these stormy times, with Jesus still finding ways to come to each of us to bring peace & calm that this world cannot give.  We also hear how the Lord appears to the prophet Elijah not it an earthquake, roaring fire, or mighty wind – but rather amidst sheer silence.  The apostle Paul reminds us that faith comes to us through the hearing of God’s word, which in near to us, “on our lips and in our hearts.”  Jesus’ words to his disciples in their storm-tossed boat still echo to us across the centuries: ”Take heart, it is I!  Do not be afraid!”
