Transfiguration of Our Lord – 2/11/24

With excitement building for Super Bowl weekend in society, we – as disciples of Jesus – find joy this Sunday celebrating the Transfiguration of our Lord! We remember how Peter, James & John journeyed with Jesus for a mountaintop experience so amazing, that it made any Super Bowl game or halftime show pale in comparison. We had our own mountain-top experience last week, with an inspiring, heart-touching Youth Sunday. If you weren’t able to be here, you can still find the service on our YouTube channel or Facebook page. This Sunday, our Youth sponsor their annual Souper Bowl of Caring. On a weekend when billions are spent around a football game, church youth across the nation invite worshippers to donate dollars & coins to help those in need. Youth will have bowls of soup for eat-in or take-out after both services – as well as soup pots for your dollars/coins. Donations are going to our local Christian Assistance Bridge ministry. Also, for our youth, don’t forget their ongoing February “get to know our youth” fundraiser! for next summer’s Lutheran youth gathering experience. Today, Saturday, we have Stuff-a-Bus from 9-1 at the Krogers on Killian Rd. and Two Notch Rd, for our Backpack children’s food ministry. Spread the word to neighbors & friends, and come out to help: share a smile for 30 minutes or so – and have your heart touched by this experience that brings hope to many. On Sunday, after both services, we will be unloading all the food, plus packing 70 food bags! Our Lenten Journey with Jesus starts early this year. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be from 5:30-6:30, with burning of the palms at 6:45. Then, on Feb. 14, Ash Wednesday worship is at noon & 6:30, with evening worship also livestreamed. Ashes2Go is also available morning & afternoons at both LS and Lake Carolina Town Center. Lenten Fish Fry series starts next Friday the 16th. Come out & help support this effort to raise $4000 for our Campus Ministry that touches young lives. On the Mountaintop of Transfiguration, 3 disciples see Jesus shining in glory and hear God’s voice speaking in power & love. We look forward to gathering this weekend to hear God’s message of affirming love & feel the fullness of Jesus glory shining in our hearts. See you at Stuff-a-Bus and Sunday for worship! Christ’s peace!
