Fifth Sunday after Epiphany (Youth Sunday)

This weekend, there is excitement over a groundhog who did not see his shadow and predicts an early spring. But more than that, as people of faith, we are excited that long ago Jesus came out of a tomb and did not turn back, in spite of the shadow of a cross and all the world’s shadows of pain, suffering, and darkness – to show that God’s love always has the final word! May the victorious love of God fill your heart & home (as a Ground Hog’s Day movie once suggested)…. day after day after day after day! There is great excitement over this weekend’s Youth Sunday. LS Youth are leading worship with special songs, youth message, anthems, liturgical dance, and youth children’s sermon. We’re kicking off a February “get-to-know-your-youth” fundraiser for this summer’s big Lutheran Youth Gathering. Youth Gathering parents are meeting between worship – and parents of younger children are meeting after the 2nd service, as we share about a wonderful “Children’s Church” holy experiment for Lent & Easter seasons. We had amazing, joy-filled experiences at last Saturday’s Chili Cookoff and last Wednesday’s incredible community Beer ‘n Hymns (be sure to check out the LS Facebook page!). Next Tuesday is Rush Hour Ministry (from 4:15-5:00 here at church) – and next Saturday, Feb. 10, from 9:00-1:00, we have Backpack Ministry Stuff-a-Bus at the two Kroger’s on Two Notch and Killian. Come out, share a smile, and help for just 30 minutes – and have your heart touched by these powerful times that bring joy & hope to so many! Mark your calendars for Souper Bowl of Caring on Feb. 11; Shrove Tuesday Pancakes on Feb. 13; Ash Wednesday Worship on Feb. 14 (plus Ashes-2-Go at both LS and Lake Carolina); and our big annual LS Lenten Fish Fry series for Lutheran Campus Ministry starting on Friday, Feb. 16. Spread the word! On Sunday, our youth share the story of how Jesus brought hope and joy into Simon’s home, and then touched so many lives with God’s healing grace. Our young people touch our lives always with their amazing love for the Lord! Be sure to come Sunday to show your support & affirmation for these young disciples in their truly inspiring Spirit-filled journey with Jesus! Christ’s peace! #SundayWorship
