Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

We continue our “Journey with Jesus” focus with a big Sunday, as we join with Lutheran Christians across the land in the annual Lutheran “God’s Work, Our Hands” day – where everyone is invited to reach out in love in our local communities. At LS, we’re preparing 175 old-fashioned meat loaf meals for families of Backpack children, Meals on Wheels recipients, both Palmetto Place youth centers, campus ministry, community sites, and (especially appropriate on the eve of 9/11!) for 9 local first responder stations. There is some way for everyone to help. Cooking begins at 9am in the church kitchen. Around 11:45, you can help assemble meals in the fellowship hall. We have a number of folks who’ve volunteered to deliver meals, but we can still use a few more delivery persons (for 2 Backpack families, Meals on Wheels recipients, the Killian fire station, and both Palmetto Place youth houses). Also, we need even more donated desserts – everything is welcome! At worship, we have our blessing of quilts. Between services, we’re packing 70 children’s food bags for Backpack Ministry. Sunday at 5:00 (carpool 4:15), you can help with Cristo Rey children’s ministry. Next Tuesday is our re-scheduled Rush Hour Ministry, and next Thursday is Football ministry – so many ways for all of us to carry out God’s work with our hands! Sunday at 4:00 is our first Justice Ministry house gathering – and as part of worship, we welcome organizer, Sydney Gonzalez, for our Justice blessing. Finally, on Sunday, we’re overjoyed to have an Installation Blessing for new seminarian, Jace Martinez – be sure to be present to greet Jace! In worship Sunday, we hear Jesus promise that where 2 or 3 are gathered in his name, he will be there in the midst of us — and Romans reminds us that all the commandments are fulfilled with, “Love you neighbor as yourself.” What a tremendous Sunday to fulfill that love – and to feel Jesus’ presence among us as we gather in so many ways. We look forward to seeing all of you on this special Sunday! Christ’s peace! #SundayWorship
